Weekdays by the local weekend (Sunday and Saturday), minus the public holidays most people have off.
1 January is also the octave day of Christmas and civil New Year's Day.
At work: A day off.
Epiphany, also known as Theophany in the Eastern Churches, is a Christian feast commemorating the visit of the Magi, the baptism of Jesus and the wedding at Cana. In Western Christianity it commemorates principally the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus. Customs include Epiphany singing, blessing houses and eating Three Kings Cake.
At work: Fine to mention; in many places it is a family occasion rather than a working day.
11 February commemorates the 1929 signing of the Lateran Treaty, which established Vatican City as a sovereign state.
At work: A day off in Vatican City.
The feast of Saint Joseph, husband of Mary and legal father of Jesus, celebrated on 19 March, with the rank of a solemnity in the Catholic Church.
At work: Fine to mention. A day off. In Colombia it is moved to a Monday, so check the card.
The Thursday before Easter, which commemorates the Last Supper and Jesus washing his disciples' feet. It begins the Paschal Triduum, the three days before Easter.
At work: A day off in several countries, and the start of the Easter break.
A solemn Christian holy day commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus, observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum. It falls on the Friday immediately before Easter Sunday.
At work: Fine to mention the long weekend. It is a sombre day for those who observe it, so avoid "Happy Good Friday". Its date moves every year with Easter, so check the calendar when planning spring deadlines.
The last day of Holy Week, between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, when Christians prepare for Easter. It commemorates the time Jesus lay in the tomb. Catholic, Lutheran and Anglican churches begin the Easter Vigil service on this day.
At work: Fine to mention with care: a quiet day before Easter. A day off in the places that list it; the card shows the official days off.
Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and is the most important feast of the Christian year. Families go to church and share a festive meal, and in many places Easter eggs are decorated and broken together as a symbol of the empty tomb. Easter is a moveable feast, with its date set by a lunisolar calendar. Easter Monday, the day after, is a public holiday in more than 50 predominantly Christian countries.
At work: Widely welcome to mention. Colleagues may be away for the whole long weekend.

By tradition, the anniversary of the election of the reigning pope is a public holiday in Vatican City. It currently marks the election of Pope Leo XIV on 8 May 2025.
At work: A day off in Vatican City.
Ascension Day is a Christian feast commemorating Jesus's ascension into heaven. It is held 39 days after Easter Sunday, which is the 40th day of Easter, so it always falls on a Thursday.
At work: Where it is a holiday, everyone is off on Thursday.
Pentecost, also called Whit Sunday, is a Christian holiday on the 49th day (50th, counting inclusively) after Easter. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on Jesus's followers. It is a Sunday, with a public holiday on the Monday in many countries.
At work: Mostly a weekend event with services and family time. Where it is a holiday it comes with Whit Monday, so expect a slow Monday too.
The Feast of Corpus Christi, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, celebrates the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It is observed by the Catholic Church and by some Lutheran and Anglican churches, nine weeks after Maundy Thursday.
At work: Fine to mention. A Thursday off where it is a holiday.
29 June celebrates Saints Peter and Paul, the co-patrons of Rome.
At work: A day off.
14 August is a day off in Vatican City, the day before the Assumption on 15 August. Public holidays there are published each year by the Prefecture of the Pontifical Household.

The Assumption of Mary is the Catholic dogma that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken body and soul into heaven. It is celebrated on 15 August. The Eastern Churches have an equivalent belief, the Dormition.
At work: Fine to mention. A public holiday in many Catholic countries.
16 August is a day off in Vatican City, the day after the Assumption on 15 August. Public holidays there are published each year by the Prefecture of the Pontifical Household.

By tradition, the name day for the birth name of the reigning pope is a public holiday in Vatican City. On 17 September it is the feast day of Saint Robert Bellarmine, the name day of Pope Leo XIV (born Robert Francis Prevost).
At work: A day off in Vatican City.
A Christian holy day celebrated in honour of all the saints of the Church, on 1 November in the Catholic Church. It is followed by All Souls' Day on 2 November. Where it is a public holiday, cemetery rituals such as offerings of flowers, candles and prayers for the graves of loved ones often take place. The Eastern Orthodox Church celebrates it on the first Sunday after Pentecost.
At work: Fine to mention, but it is a reflective day about remembering loved ones, not a festive one, so avoid "Happy All Saints' Day".
A day of prayer and remembrance for the faithful departed, observed by Christians on 2 November, after All Saints' Day. Observances often include families visiting graveyards to pray and decorate their family graves with garlands, flowers, candles and incense.
At work: Solemn, so "Happy" does not fit. It is fine to mention.
The Immaculate Conception is the doctrine that the Virgin Mary was free of original sin from the moment of her conception. It was defined as a dogma in 1854 by Pope Pius IX, and its feast day is 8 December. It is about Mary's conception, not the birth of Jesus.
At work: Fine to mention. A public holiday in many Catholic countries.
The evening or entire day before Christmas, widely recognised as a full or partial holiday in anticipation of Christmas Day. Christmas celebrations in Western Christianity have long begun on Christmas Eve, and Midnight Mass is popular in Poland (pasterka) and Lithuania.
At work: Where it is a day off it simply starts the Christmas break. In other places, many people finish at midday. Don't schedule anything.
Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on 25 December. Eastern Christian Churches that follow the older Julian calendar celebrate it on 25 December of that calendar, which currently corresponds to 7 January. It is a public holiday in many countries, and many non-Christians celebrate it culturally too.
At work: Widely welcome to mention. Plan important meetings before the break. If you're unsure whether someone celebrates it, "Happy holidays" is a safe choice.
Boxing Day is celebrated on 26 December, the day after Christmas. It was once a day to donate gifts to those in need and has become part of the Christmas festivities. It originated in the United Kingdom and is celebrated in several Commonwealth nations. It is usually concurrent with Saint Stephen's Day, which in parts of Europe is the second day of Christmas.
At work: Fine to mention. It is part of the Christmas break.
